Atkinsons dishes-up a celebration birthday treat!

Monday 01st July 2019

Chris Hale, famed for reaching the quarter finals of BBC MasterChef, whisked-up mouth-watering dishes from the Cookshop department in-store on Tuesday - all in aid of Atkinsons’ chosen charity, Weston Park Cancer Charity.

Chris demonstrated three signature dishes, including wild mushroom ragu on ciabatta (vegan); pan fried steak, green beans and chimichurri sauce; griddled peaches with honeyed cream and salted caramel sauce - sharing some culinary secrets and tips in the proceedings, while road-testing the store’s award winning healthy cooking option - the Stellar Rocktanium non-stick range that requires little or no oil, and offers a lifetime guarantee.

The Executive Chef and Pop-Up North owner commented: “I have chosen to cook-up three dishes that are easy to prepare - yet both impressive and delicious!

“I only started as a professional chef a few years ago following a career change - but have not looked back. I hope in proving how fun and simple cooking can be I have encouraged a few shoppers today to look at new dishes, ingredients - and utensils. It has been a pleasure to be part of Atkinson’s Birthday celebrations.”

David Cartwright, Atkinsons store manager, who first started at the store in 1978, returning as store manager in December 2015, said: “We’re thrilled that Chris has been part of our Birthday celebration events. He is one of our region’s most innovative chefs - and therefore the ideal personality to help showcase our cooking department’s healthy cooking products.”

Atkinson’s cook-wear buyer Tony Gillott, who has been with Atkinsons for over 20 years, commented: “Through these events we are bringing some in-store ‘theatre ’to shoppers, helping to attract old and new customers alike, and continuing to offer a first-class customer service from Sheffield’s longest serving department store.”

John Atkinson opened his first shop on the Moor -then known as South Street - in 1872. The store has survived two world wars (it was flattened in the Sheffield Blitz of 1940), numerous recessions - and is now the city Centre’s only independent department store.
